About

Thirty years in the trenches, now in your corner.

I'm Christopher J Abt. Most people call me Chris. I am an IT consultant, or a computer consultant if that is the term you grew up with, running SolviTech IT Solutions out of southern Chester County, PA, and I work with small businesses across the area.

My clients are usually five to twenty-five people, though larger teams are always welcome. They run a real business, they depend on their technology, and a full IT department is nowhere near their budget. That's the gap I fill. And when you grow, SolviTech grows with you: I keep a regional bench of trusted techs at the ready, so when a job needs more hands, the help is already there.

Most of them came to me from somewhere else. If you are weighing whether tochange IT companies, I handle the whole handoff.

Why one is enough

One person. Not one point of failure.

You get one senior engineer who knows your setup cold, backed by thirty years, enterprise-grade tooling, and a bench of trusted techs for when a job needs more hands.

30+ years, all senior

No tier-one queue, no trainee learning on your dime. You get the person who has already seen it break: hospital systems, data centers, and escalation across hundreds of environments at a managed service provider.

Local and accountable

SolviTech IT Solutions LLC, a registered Delaware business based in southern Chester County, PA. Not a side gig, not a hobby, and one name on the work: mine.

Enterprise-grade tools

The same class of 24/7 monitoring, endpoint protection, and immutable backup the big firms run, sized to your business and managed for you.

Backup on the bench

When a job needs more hands, I bring in trusted techs I have worked with for years. The help is already there, so you are never stuck waiting on one person.

Compliance-grade experience

I have built and run IT under HIPAA, PCI-DSS, and SOC 2 audits. I know what genuinely protects a small team and what is just expensive overhead.

Local, and on-site when it counts

I am right here in southern Chester County. When something needs hands on it, I show up in person, not a ticket in a queue three time zones away.

My story

Why I started SolviTech

I spent years inside managed service providers, and I also sat on the other side of the table hiring them. I saw the same thing from both chairs: work done at seventy percent and billed at a hundred.

The moment that stuck with me was watching a client get charged twelve hundred dollars to install a printer. Not because it was a hard job. Because the tech assigned to it didn't know how, and the client was billed hourly for every minute of the figuring out.

That's the part I couldn't let go of. You are the professional. That's why you were hired. You don't get to bill a client for your own education.

So that's the line I run my business on. If you hand me something I haven't worked with before, I'll tell you that up front. Then I go talk to the vendor, or a peer who knows it cold, and I do that research on my own time. You pay me for the plan and the work. You don't pay me to learn.

How I work

I don't talk at people in acronyms. You tell me what's happening in your own words, the way you'd describe it to anyone else, and I'll figure out what it means. That's my job, not yours.

Then I tell you what I found, in plain English, and what I'd do about it. You decide. I've never seen the point of making someone feel stupid about their own business.

I also pay attention. When I'm in your office, I'm looking around. If I notice you're doing something the slow way, I'll say so. "I could cut that in half for you. Want to hear how?" Sometimes the answer is no, and that's fine. But you'll know the option exists.

An example

A client called me because their internet provider was moving them from coax to fiber. Straightforward job. They asked me to coordinate with the vendor.

While I was in there, I looked around at the rest of the network. It wasn't what they hired me for, but it takes ten minutes and it's how I work.

I found open ports visible from the public internet. Their camera system was years out of date, with known exploits already circulating. And there was an old Linux machine sitting wide open behind port forwards left in place by their previous provider, still reachable from anywhere in the world.

They had no idea. They knew the box was old. They weren't sure what it did anymore, and nobody wanted to unplug it in case something broke. So it sat there.

That fiber cutover turned into a proper security assessment and a rebuilt network: current firewall, current access points, the old exposed machine retired, the holes closed. They went from an open front door to something I'd actually be comfortable standing behind.

The microwave

Here's how I think about this work.

My grandmother used to heat her leftovers by boiling a pot of water and setting a plate on top. Took fifteen minutes. We tried for years to give her a microwave, and she didn't want it, because she didn't know what she was missing. When she finally used one, fifteen minutes became fifteen seconds.

She wasn't stubborn. She just didn't know. Nobody had ever shown her.

Technology is the same. Most of my clients aren't ignoring problems, and they're not behind on purpose. They just don't know what to look for, and nobody has ever walked them through it. That's what I'm for. I'll show you what's broken, show you what's possible, and let you decide what's worth doing.

Background

I started on a help desk at a shoe store in Kennett Square, then spent years doing contract work. That was the old bench model: you sat, you waited for the phone, and you took whatever walked in the door. One day a failed hard drive, the next day a network nobody had documented. You learned fast because there was nobody to hand it to.

That stretch is where I paid my dues, and it's where I learned to work with whatever is actually in front of me instead of whatever I wished were there. It ended when I landed my first real job in IT, as a network engineer for a local hospital.

From there it's been about thirty years. Hospital clinical systems and patient data governance. Data centers and hosting. Escalation work at a managed service provider handling hundreds of client environments, where I was the person other engineers handed a problem to once it stopped being routine. I've also built an IT department from nothing, with a budget, a team, and compliance audits under HIPAA, PCI-DSS, and SOC 2.

That range matters for small business work. I've seen how the expensive environments are built, and I know which of those practices genuinely protect a ten-person company and which ones are just overhead.

The short version: I've watched a lot of things break, and I took notes.

Outside of work

Flying drones is a real passion. I'm FAA Part 107 certified.

The rest of my free time goes into building things. I'll notice something I need, go looking for it, fail to find it, and then build it myself: small applications, plugins, browser extensions. It scratches the same itch as the day job. Find the friction, remove it permanently.

I'm also a notary public, commissioned by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

I've been in and out of Chester County for forty years, and for the last five I've been here for good. My family has been here forty years too. This is home.

What you can expect

You won't be another line on a roster. I check in. I ask what's not working. If something's wrong, I'd rather hear about it early than get an emergency call at 4pm on a Friday.

And you will never pay me twelve hundred dollars to install a printer.

If that sounds like the kind of help you've been looking for, get in touch and we'll talk about what you've got.
